My First Break: Vinaitha
How it happened
I started learning music at a young age, got my first break when I was 15 in a Malayalam film, titled Notebook. Interestingly, it was an English song, which became a hit. My first Tamil song is for Mittai. Sabesh-Murali have scored the music for the film, which is yet to be released. Murali spotted me in a college competition where he chose me as the best singer.
The turning point came when Yuvan Shankar Raja called me to record a song for Theerada Vilayattu Pillai — I was glad when I got a call from his office again to record another song for the same film, a duet with Vijay Yesudas, ‘En Asai Ediraliye'. Till now, I have sung nearly 50 songs in the four southern languages. I graduated in English Literature from Ethiraj College, but I knew from day one that music was going to be my profession and it has come true.
